PRENATAL TESTS – 2ND TRIMESTER

The ultrasound examination in the second trimester – usually performed between pregnancy weeks 20 and 23 – is popularly referred to as the HALF-PREGNANCY TEST or GENETIC TEST IN THE SECOND TRIMESTER OF PREGNANCY. It enables an extremely detailed assessment of the foetus anatomy and detection of a significant part of abnormalities in the child’s body (we primarily detect defects of organs: heart – HEART ECHO TEST, and defects of other systems: nervous, digestive, urinary, bone).

The additional genetic markers of chromosomal diseases found at this stage may again affect your calculated risk of having a sick child. In such a case, there may be indications to perform invasive diagnostics.
